A self-led journey back to the beginning
A self-led journey back to the beginning
I’m an Austin artist who paints more by instinct than by plan. After taking a 20 year break from art, I came back to the canvas and realized I had completely changed. The narrative style I used to chase had faded and what remained was having no attachment to outcome.
Now, my process feels less like directing and more like listening. I follow an inner guide I think of as a curious rabbit, part intuition, part impulse, part what if?
I’m not trying to control the outcome as much as stay open long enough for the work to reveal itself. The best part is when the painting stops feeling like something I made and starts feeling like something with its own presence - I look at it, and then it begins to look back.
I hope the work gives viewers the same thing it gives me: a reason to pause, get curious, and let go of needing to understand. There's magic that shows up when expectations fall away.
